Hallowed Decay - Ghost Chasing Core Level Design

Level Design

In Hallowed Decay, the player takes control of Blake, who begins the game in a church located in limbo.
Along a predetermined route, Blake encounters a guardian ghost of the church—a spirit trapped in limbo that hunts sinful souls. During the ghost’s chase sequences, the player must rely on environmental hiding mechanics, such as:

hiding under tables,
taking cover behind or beside environmental assets,
and crossing a magical boundary line that the ghost cannot pass.

The player’s main objective is to reach safe level rooms that are inaccessible to the ghost and complete mini-level challenges, including:

a Potion Puzzle Room,

and a Button-Based Puzzle Room.

By completing these mini-levels, the player obtains stained-glass key fragments. These fragments must be placed into the stained-glass door before the ghost catches Blake.

Behind the door lies a coffin, which holds the truth of the church. When Blake lies inside the coffin, he finds peace, and the ghost ceases its pursuit.
